NSW:Planking is dangerous, O'Farrell says

SYDNEY, May 20 AAP - NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell has added his voice to growing concerns
about planking.

Young Brisbane man Acton Beale died last weekend after falling seven storeys from a
high-rise unit while planking.

"It is clear from episodes in recent days that planking can be dangerous," Mr O'Farrell
told reporters in Sydney on Friday.

"We've seen in Queensland one person die.

"It's about time people across the state understood that planking can and is dangerous."

Mr O'Farrell's comments come a day after federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott voiced
concerns about planking and urged youngsters to find other ways to keep themselves occupied.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has also raised concerns about the activity.

The internet-driven fad involves people lying plank-like in odd places and then taking
photos of themselves.
