stockjobber (jobber) A market maker on the London Stock Exchange prior to the Big Bang (October, 1986). Stockjobbers were only permitted to deal with the general public through the intermediary of a stockbroker. This single capacity system was replaced by the dual-capacity system of market makers after the Big Bang.
