On November 13, 2003, members of the Vancouver section of the CIC held their annual dinner meeting. After enjoying a buffet dinner at the Simon Fraser University Diamond Centre and presenting the new Creo Achievement Awards in Chemistry and ALS Environmental Awards in Chemistry, over 70 members were treated to an excellent, entertaining lecture by Penny Le Couteur, dean of arts and science at Capilano College in Vancouver, entitled "Hot, Sweet and Spicy: Chemistry in History."
