Fed: The charge of the horse brigade: $25 - but rescue at hand

A group of old Diggers has expressed outrage at a requirement they pay insurance cover
so they can pay their respects to fallen comrades.

Members of the seventh Australian cavalry regiment have been laying wreaths without
charge for 57 years at Sydney's Martin Place Cenotaph to commemorate heavy losses sustained
in a fierce battle on the Kokoda Trail in PNG.

Now they may have to pay insurance cover for the event.

But while the Sydney City Council has been unable to give a firm commitment to waive
the fee, relief may be at hand.

Within hours of the Diggers' plight becoming public, council sources have indicated
their case will be viewed kindly next year.
